Our check-up appointments usually follow the same routine; your dentist will talk to you to find out if you have any dental concerns and then will examine your teeth, gums and mouth to ensure there are no underlying problems.
 
Typically, we will check for dental decay, tooth wear, early jaw joint related problems, oral cancer and gum disease. As part of the examination X-rays may be required to diagnose any problems which are not visible to the naked eye.

​If a dental issue is identified the treatment options available will be discussed and a treatment plan with a breakdown of the fees will be provided.

If you have a cavity or if a current filling requires replacing we can do this for you. Here at Marston Dental we primarily work with white composite filling material which is matched to the colour of your teeth to provide a discreet virtually invisible filling.

Dental crowns are caps which fit over your natural teeth and are used for many purposes. They can be made to resemble the shape and colour of your natural teeth therefore providing a functional and cosmetic solution.
 
Reasons for crowning a tooth are to:
• Restore a heavily broken-down tooth where a filling is not possible
• Protect a tooth following root canal treatment
• Improve the appearance of a discoloured or poorly shaped tooth

Crowns can be made from a variety of materials including porcelain, metal or a combination of both depending on the reason for needing it and the location of the tooth in the mouth.

Bridges replace one or more missing teeth restoring the appearance of your smile and improving the function of your bite.
 
Bridges use the neighbouring teeth as anchors and are cemented in place, providing a fixed replacement option.
 
As well as the traditional bridges, featuring crowns and a false tooth in between, we can also provide resin bonded bridges which use metal or ceramic wings as anchors requiring little or in some cases no preparation of the teeth at all.
 
At your examination your dentist will be able to advise which is the best option for you.

Root canal treatment repairs and saves the tooth when the pulp or nerve inside tooth becomes infected. Pulp infection can be very painful and, in some cases, cause swelling. The most common causes are tooth decay, trauma, cracked tooth or a deep filling/ cavity.
 
​Root canal treatment is the removal of the infected pulp/ nerve. The inside of the tooth is cleaned shaped and disinfected with special files and solutions, before being filled and sealed. Contrary to popular belief, a root canal is usually no more painful than a filling and our dentists are highly experienced in the latest concepts to provide a speedy and comfortable experience.
